Toronto Theatre Alliance Marks 25 Years of Serving the Toronto Performing Arts Community
T.O. TIX Goes Online with RepeatSeat
Toronto, November 8, 2004....The Toronto Theatre Alliance (TTA), the voice of the performing arts in Toronto, made several major announcements today at their Annual General Meeting signaling renewal and continued growth for the organization and its membership. This annual general meeting also marks and celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Toronto Theatre Alliance from its humble beginnings to present day with 159 members representing Toronto theatre, dance and opera companies.
T.O. TIX, the discount ticket booth located at Yonge-Dundas Square and operated by the Toronto Theatre Alliance, reported in the fiscal period of September 2003 to August 2004 a 56% increase in revenue over the previous year (2002-2003). During this timeframe, T.O. TIX returned to the performing arts community $593,390 for tickets sold on behalf of its members - 66% increase over the previous year. This dollar value represents 28,299 ticket sale transactions - 33% increase over 2002-2003.
"We are extremely pleased to have been able to return over half a million dollars in ticket sales directly back to participating companies," said Jacoba Knappen, TTA Executive Director. "This increase is due in part to our marketing initiatives to build awareness of T.O. TIX and to an expanded ticket inventory that includes the ROM, Ontario Science Centre, Gray Line Sightseeing tours, ShopDineTour Toronto and out-of-town summer theatres."
As part of the TTA's focused effort to increase ticket sales and to provide value-added service to its membership, it was announced that T.O. TIX will be going online as of Tuesday, November 23rd. T.O. TIX has entered into a partnership with Calgary's RepeatSeat, a fully integrated point of sales and online ticketing agency that will transform T.O. TIX into a virtual ticket kiosk. T.O. TIX customers will now be able to go to www.totix.ca and purchase online discount tickets on the day of the performance and full-price tickets to Toronto special events and attractions. T.O. TIX will continue their operations at Yonge-Dundas Square as a
one-stop ticket shop offering their customers one-on-one service.
RepeatSeat statistics indicate that internet ticket sales are growing at an annual rate of 67% per year and online transactions are forecasted to grow to 65% of total ticket sales by 2005. Other Canadian RepeatSeat clients include: Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Cineplex Galaxy Canada, Tickets Tonight (B.C.) Ð sister booth to T.O. TIX, and the Winspear Centre in Calgary.
"We are extremely pleased to offer our online ticketing services to T.O. TIX," said Bob Christianson, Executive Vice President and COO, RepeatSeat. "This is another example of how RepeatSeat is expanding its presence into significant markets such as Toronto. Through this new relationship, our goal is to provide superior online ticketing solutions to performing arts lovers in the Toronto area."
Toronto Theatre Alliance is an arts service organization that represents nearly 200 professional theatre, dance and opera companies in the City of Toronto and works to create an environment in which the performing arts may flourish and maintain its leadership role in the vitality and livability of the City of Toronto.
